What is Qunioa?
Technically its a seed and is, believe it or not, related to spinach, chard and beets. This is a great replacement for rice. It is a complete protein even though we see it as a carbohydrate. In a cup of qunioa it is around 254 calories, 2 grams of fat, 23.4 grams of carbohydrates (2 of which are fiber) and 4.5 grams of protein.
As a complete protein it contains amino acids necessary for our nutritional needs. It is high in iron and calcium, a good source of manganese, magnesium and copper. It is a really great choice if you are a vegetarian or vegan. Because it is high in magnesium, which is important to maintain good cardio vascular health. Qunioa is good to boost your antioxidant levels as well.
How to cook Quinoa
I cook my quinoa in my rice cooker. Works perfectly! But there are also other ways to eat it. As I stated before its a replacement for rice. There are plenty of recipes on pinterest, most of them do work and are delicious. Perfect for any meal or snack.
